Utilization of Bio-Compatible Materials that are most compatible with your specific physiology is our top priority. In order to determine bio-compatibility, special tests can be completed on an individual basis as needed. In addition, we aim to be sensitive to those with “recovery” (chemical dependency) or chemical sensitivity issues.

We recommend material compatibility testing for all patients prior to dental treatment, particularly patients with multiple allergies, chemical sensitivities  or for patients who seek to replace restorations and/or undergo dental revision.  There are several chemicals that are used in modern dentistry that we feel are potentially hazardous and will not use. Other materials may be compatible for most patients, but not for a few that are sensitive. Because we can never know for sure who the sensitive individuals are, we offer material compatibility testing.

If you feel that dental work done in the past has or is currently causing you a reaction, please make an appointment to discuss what we recommend before continuing with further dental care.

We have a variety of testing techniques to determine what materials are compatible, or not, with your body. All materials that will be used during a patient’s treatment, including anesthetics, can be tested, including materials used for fillings, crowns and bridges, dentures, implants and anything that will occupy time and space in the mouth.

Blood Serum Testing

These blood tests are of value in screening broad classes of materials to provide a thorough list of materials that can be used safely for each individual though it is generally agreed amongst various holistic dental clinicians that bioenergetic response testing (either kinesiology, EDT, EDS or EAV) is more definitive.

Clifford Blood Serum Testing

Clifford Material Reactivity Testing (CMRT) is a simple blood serum test that helps individually identify chemical groups and families of compounds that may pose a threat to the patient. Analyzing the immune record of antibodies it compares the antigens in your bloodstream to the ingredients in dental materials, systemic sensitivities are identified and cross-referenced with a database of dental materials.

The fee for completion of the Clifford test is currently $295. For more information on the Clifford test please visit the lab’s website at www.ccrlab.com.

Biocomp Blood Serum Testing

Biocomp Materials Reactivity Testing is a laboratory screening process used to help identify existing sensitivity problems to various chemical groups in an individual patient. I use this form of testing with patients who are known to be very chemically sensitive. The test provides a list of all the commonly used dental materials and will evaluate whether you are suited or not well suited to over 2,000 individual dental materials.

Bioenergetic Testing

There are various types of bioenergetic testing methods to test dental materials “energetic” compatibility. These include kinesiology or automatic response muscle testing, Applied Kinesiology multiple muscle testing, Bi-digital O-ring test, electroacupuncture biofeedback (EDT, EDS, EAV, and VRT) tests, Auriculomedicine, Articulotherapy or Articular Acupuncture (VAS), and various forms of arm and leg length testing (AR and MRT).

Electro Dermal Testing (EDT)
Electro Dermal Screening (EDS)
Vegetative Reflex Test (Vega Test) (VRT)
Electroacupuncture according to Voll (EAV)

EDT, EDS, EAV or VRT is a quick, non-invasive method of screening for biocompatibility by measuring electrical galvanic response and resistance on the skin’s surface. Bioelectric energy flows along particular pathways within the body, much like a circuit board, and links internal organs with more than 100 acupuncture points throughout the body. When a blockage occurs along these pathways (meridians), bioelectric energy accumulates, eventually resulting in illness.

the purpose of this method is to measure and detect the body’s ability to conduct energy and is designed to indicate disruption or energy imbalances in the flow of this energy along these pathways (invisible lines of the body) described by acupuncturists as meridians.

It is an energetic test that involves the patient holding a brass rod with one hand while meridian points are located on the other hand with a stylus. A computer is used along with a Biofeedback machine to process the information gathered from testing little vials of each dental material that may be used. The procedure is painless and results are immediate.

Studies have shown that this technique can achieve 85-90% sensitivity in what it’s intended to evaluate. As a result of this method’s accuracy, ease of use, and unique information obtained, Biofeedback devices such as these are very popular in Europe and in the offices of Naturopathic and complementary health practitioner’s in North America.

Presently there are 10,000 Biofeedback devices being used throughout Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain, and North America.

Autonomic Response Muscle Testing (ART)
Kinesiology Response Muscle Testing (KRT)

Our body is filled with electrical activity. Electrical activity is the way that information gets delivered to our brain, it is what keeps our heart beating, and it is the way our brain communicates with our muscles.

Small changes in our experience affect the patterns of our brainwaves (EEG) and the patterns of our heartbeat (EKG). It is no wonder that these kinds of changes also affect muscle function.

Muscles contain thousands of cells, and each of these must receive a signal from an individual nerve. Taken together the impulses from thousands of nerve fibers must reach thousands of muscle cells in just the right time sequence in order for a muscle to be strong.

Anything that even temporarily throws off our body’s electrical activity can keep a muscle from holding its strength.

Kinesiology or autonomic response muscle testing is a painless, non-invasive way to gauge what creates or alleviates stress in the body. This technique was developed by the chiropractic profession and provides an indication of central nervous system tolerance or intolerance to dental materials.

With this test, the patient holds little vials of each dental material that may be used while the practitioner checks to see if it weakens the body. This is done by simply applying slight pressure to a contracted muscle, frequently the shoulder muscle is used to magnify how the body responds to various kinds of challenges. If a muscle is strong before the material is in hand and strong as it is in hand, then that dental material is OK. However, if the patient becomes weak when the material is in their energy field, then it should not be used. This test can be subject to operator error. There are, however, many very good kinesiologists who successfully do this test.

Applied Kinesiology Multiple Muscle Testing

Applied Kinesiology is used to choose biologically compatible dental restorative materials by evaluating the energetic state of the body along the acupuncture meridians and in the auric field of the body overlying the chakras to identify major energy imbalances caused by body sensitivities and reactions to various dental restorative materials. This is done through a 45 muscle assessment that tests muscle strengths and weaknesses as an indicator of an organism’s orderly or disturbed state of health. Muscle strength is influenced by the energy fields of objects in close association with the body.

A Kinesiology testing kit of all of the sample materials which might be used during dental treatment is used to generate muscle responses. A positive response indicates a material which would be acceptable for the patient, while a negative response indicates a material that would not be chosen for the patient.

People react to the presence of conventional composite filling materials with a shift energetically showing stimulation of the triple warmer meridian (associated with the regulation of energy flow;equivalent to the endocrine system of western medicine) with an expansion of the energy radiating from the pelvic area and a contraction of the energy field over the heart.

Auriculotherapy
Auriculomedicine
Auricular Acupncture (VAS)

Auricular Medicine detects energetic suggestions of the cause of chronic symptoms through observing changes in the distance of electric fields projected off of the ears.

With it, it’s possible to find energetic clues that an organ is stressed, injured, or diseased through resonance matching. This is accomplished using a wide variety of samples containing the electromagnetic frequencies of various dental materials.

Since all dental materials have a specific frequency, it’s possible to briefly stress the body with a test sample to see if a resonance or a vibrational match exists. In other words, if a stressed organ or a substance exists in your body ALREADY, and we temporarily add the frequency of more of the same—your bio-electric field will project farther out from your body because a substance that is in TUNE with the body, resonates with it. Throughout the exam, dozens of samples are added and subtracted from the plates, and observations are made of how they affect the electric field distance. In perfect health, this distance is 1cm (less than ½ inch) away from the ear.

Bi-digital O-ring test (BDORT)

Dental materials such as metals are involved with diseases caused by electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic waves from dental materials may cause symptoms of diseases and specific dental materials act like antennae, receiving electromagnetic waves, which cause unpleasant symptoms. Therefore diseases can be treated by replacing the metals, and the BDORT is very useful for finding which materials should be removed and which new material should be used in their place.

The BDORT is a useful test for finding the dental materials that receive electromagnetic waves and cause diseases, and for finding which materials can be safely used as replacements.

Matrix Response Testing (MRT)

MRT is an energetic testing method that evaluates changes in patients’ connective tissue, also known as the “ground substance” or “matrix” tissue. MRT assists doctors and practitioners in determining the underlying cause of a patient’s pain, dysfunction or disease, and the most specific and optimal form of treatment

This energetic testing technique evolved from a combination of the reflex arm length test (AR), an assessment of the body’s electromagnetic field and the use of hand modes and six-channel entry patterns (Mode Cards, the distinction between right versus left arm shortening, Gel, and Sol Matrix Testing, etc.)

The Reflex Arm length test Measurement Component of MRT is conducted by comparing a patient’s arm lengths with the elbows relaxed and slightly flexed. Analogous to the kinesiological phenomena of a muscle changing from strong to weak when challenged with a toxic stressor, a shift from even arms to a short arm in the MRT technique also indicates a positive test. For example, a mercury vial placed within the energy field of a patient affected with severe mercury toxicity would elicit a short arm reflex response.

In contrast to the autonomic nervous system-mediated kinesiology testing, the MRT method primarily assesses the functioning of the body’s connective tissue.

MRT is generally a more sensitive method of testing than kinesiology and thus serves as a useful ancillary test for many kinesiologists. Modern electron microscopy studies have found that the nerves do not actually touch the cells, but that their neurotransmitters are carried from the blind nerve endings through the matrix tissue to their target cells. Through its matrix-mediated assessment, the MRT method, therefore, more directly measures the body’s extracellular as well as intracellular environments, in contrast to the ANS (autonomic nervous system)-mediated muscle testing. Further, since the matrix tissue is also in direct contact with the hormones through the capillary beds, the subtle disturbances in hormonal functioning can also best be measured through this more sensitive test.

Heavy Metal Testing

Prior to amalgam removal, we recommend that you have a test done for heavy metals in order to evaluate how your body is currently handling these toxins. In addition to measuring the body’s heavy metal burden, we want to ensure that the body is working efficiently to clear the heavy metals from other body tissues.

MELISA Test
(Memory Lymphocyte Immuno Stimulation Assay)

The MELISA test is a blood test for delayed hypersensitivity and allows the monitoring of mercury levels in the body before and during detoxing

It puts a range of metals into contact with the white blood cells in your bloodstream and from there it measures the reaction. It can also measure the reaction of Thimerosal which is a mercury-based preservative used in vaccinations

It can diagnose an allergy to around 40 different metals (including 4 different types of mercury: inorganic, methyl, ethyl and phenyl) and many chemicals including formaldehyde. It can also diagnose Borrelia (Lyme Disease) and Candida.

TRI Test

This is a clinical test that measures the exposures and excretion abilities of the two main forms of mercury we’re exposed to today: dental and environmental. Using hair, blood and urine samples, this test assesses the level of bio-incompatibility or physiological difficulty each form poses to the patient. This test requires that the patient does not consume seafood or fish for 72 hours (preferably 1 week) before taking the test and that a urine (first morning, midstream) sample is collected within 24 hours of the blood and hair samples. The test kit can be mailed to you so that it can be completed before your visit.

Electro Dermal Testing (EDT)
Electro Dermal Screening (EDS)
Electroacupuncture according to Voll (EAV)

EDT, EDS or EAVis a quick, non-invasive method of evaluating the impact of toxic heavy metals such as mercury fillings on the body by measuring the electrical resistance on the skin’s surface. The purpose is to detect energy imbalances along invisible lines of the body described by acupuncturists as meridians.

It is an energetic test that involves the patient holding a brass rod with one hand while meridian points are located on the other hand with a stylus. A computer is used along with an EAV machine to process the information gathered. The procedure is painless and results immediately.

Applied Kinesiology Multiple Muscle Testing

Kinergetic heavy metal toxicity testing evaluates the energetic state of the body along the acupuncture meridians and in the auric field of the body overlying the chakras to identify major energy imbalances caused by body sensitivities and reactions to mercury or other dental restorative materials through administrating a 45 muscle assessment test and scanning the body with a vial of homeopathic mercury and other heavy metals.
